Wallpaper is back. And I had a chance to hang some last weekend.
They say hanging wallpaper with a spouse could result in a trip to divorce court. I have not heard what they say about hanging wallpaper with your grandma. So I was understandably nervous about it. She is such a classy lady and quite fussy about things. I could not sleep the night before thinking about how long it had been since I last put paper up and whether my skills would be good enough for her.
I had visions of myself perched precariously on a ladder with wallpaper falling on my head or of my foot in the paste bucket, or of papering a small critter to the wall (too many Saturday morning cartoons as a kid, I guess).
When I arrived on Saturday she was set to go. There was a piece of wood on a couple of sawhorses for our pasting station. The cool wallpaper we selected was not pre-pasted. Pasting wallpaper is not a huge deal. I actually prefer it because of the way you can control the amount you put on and keep the edges pasty too. We used heavy duty clear adhesive and a pasting brush. A paint roller can work for pasting if you are working with a lightweight clear or activator.
We had no issues with the paper or with excessive bubbling. The paste we used “stuck like glue” ! (I was pretty sticky myself!!)
I heard stories about her family when she was younger. I heard some great stories about my mom too… It was wonderful to spend time with her!
We finished the foyer but it took most of the day. (I think I was more tired than she was!) I have to say it looked fantastic!!!
Here is a picture of the paper we used. It is from Thibaut’s Texture Resource. It’s difficult to see the colors in the photo but it has fresh shades of teal and coppery brown. I love Thibault’s wallpaper. While we don’t have it at every Seven’s, Rebekah would be happy to help you out at the store in Kentwood. Or we can send a particular book to the Seven’s most convenient for you.
Here it is in a room scheme.
